As the New Year begins, Albert Durkó, president of the Hungarian Gypsy Missions International, shared an inspiring message of hope and faith. He expressed his belief that the Roma people, who continue to face significant challenges, have the potential to become bearers of God’s light.

Albert Durkó highlighted that the future of Hungary and Europe is intertwined with the untapped potential within the Roma community. While numerous programs have been implemented to address issues in Roma settlements, he believes a greater divine purpose is at play. “God doesn’t just want to eliminate these settlements but transform them into places that, through their dynamism and development, can serve as examples for other communities,” he stated.

The Source of Change: God’s Presence

Durkó emphasized that true transformation stems from the presence of God. “Our task is to uncover the resources within Roma settlements. God’s presence changes not only individuals but also their environment,” he explained. To reinforce his point, he shared a verse from the Book of Isaiah:

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you” (Isaiah 60:1-3).

Hope and Faith for the New Year

Albert Durkó’s message radiates hope for the New Year. “The glory of the Lord rises upon them, and nations and kings will come to their light,” he highlighted. He emphasized that when God reigns over Roma settlements, the blessings will ripple outward to benefit broader communities.

The president of HGMI concluded by wishing everyone a blessed and happy New Year, encouraging all to seek a personal encounter with Christ in 2025. He affirmed that such an encounter holds the transformative power to change not only individual lives but entire communities.
