“You are stepping into a spiritual battle, waging war to save lives.” With this powerful message, twenty-seven district mission coordinators were commissioned during a joyful worship service in Kótaj. These dedicated brothers and sisters have assumed a vital role in the new mission strategy, aiming to bring the gospel to even more towns and villages throughout Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County.
The vision behind this initiative is that every settlement would experience vibrant community life, with someone present to support and sustain the mission’s work. During the celebration, Deputy Mission Director-General András Berki and Pastor László Surman both emphasized the faithfulness and dedication of the new coordinators.
Looking ahead, the mission has set bold goals: within five years, to double the number of congregations; and within ten years, to see the living gospel proclaimed in more than three thousand localities.
“Our long-term goal is to reach 325,000 Roma people who, through conversion and being born again, will become part of our congregations. We are also preparing for revival in practical ways. Today marks the first step in that process. In the future, we plan to spread the gospel in an organized way to every county in the nation,” shared Albert Durkó, president of Hungarian Gypsy Missions International.
Before stepping into their new roles, the coordinators received extensive training, guided by the mission’s spiritual leaders and national elders. One of the most moving moments of the service was when the leaders laid hands on the new coordinators and prayed for them as they walked through a prayer tunnel—symbolizing God’s covering and blessing over their lives and ministries.
As one of the newly commissioned coordinators, Róbert Lakatos, expressed:
“I see this task as more than just a commissioning—it’s a way of life. I believe the Lord will go before us, and that with His strength and wisdom, we will be able to serve our brothers and sisters. It is a true privilege to be part of this work.”
