forum event

The Carpathian Basin Roma Missions Forum has reached another milestone. The primary goal of the forum is to provide a platform for professionals and ministers—especially those working with Hungarian-speaking Roma communities—to exchange experiences and insights.

“We are preparing for a revival among the Roma that will spread across Europe. You have to prepare for the flood during the drought, not when the waters have already come,” was one of the messages shared at the event.

Formed during the First Carpathian Basin Roma Missions Conference, the forum’s members are consistently seeking new points of connection to enhance the effectiveness of their ministries. Recently, the organizers established a new foundation and launched an online platform, offering greater flexibility in their mission work.

“We must unite, because we function much more effectively as a network. No one holds exclusive rights to revival. The Lord has called all of us. Now is the time for harvest,” emphasized Albert Durkó, President of the Hungarian Gypsy Missions International.

Károly Horváth, representing the Church of the Living God, traveled from Ukraine and spoke about the hardships caused by the ongoing war.

“Many families are suffering in Transcarpathia. People are afraid to go outside because a military unit is collecting and taking away men. We’re also trying to help so that people don’t have to leave their homes just to get food. We believe that if our thinking changes, our whole lives can change. We even have a school where we teach children to read and write,” he shared.

Péter Makkai, head of the Reformed Roma Mission in Transylvania, also emphasized the importance of unity.

“We can only be instruments of God if we truly invite those whom God has called to serve in these areas—regardless of denomination.”

Special guests included a delegation from Brazil who visited HGMI.

“The strategy in Brazil is completely different from that in Hungary—it’s much easier for us to lead someone to conversion. We also want to establish a school where we can train people to serve in the future. We will return home inspired by your courage and your passion for mission,” said the leader of the group.

Finally, it was announced that the next Carpathian Basin Roma Missions Conference will be held in Békés, from September 11–13. Participants noted that they stay in regular contact beyond these formal gatherings to continue sharing experiences and addressing challenges together.
