church after fire

The congregation of the Hungarian Gypsy Missions International in Zákányszék is going through the toughest period in its history. As we have reported several times, their church, which they built and developed over many years of dedicated work, has almost completely burned to the ground. The exact causes of the disaster remain unclear, but it is certain that the former congregation building and its surroundings have been completely destroyed, making it no longer able to serve its function.

The donations received so far have provided significant help to the community, but they need further financial resources to create adequate conditions. The burning of the church buliding in Zákányszék was a tremendous shock to the congregation, but its members did not give up. They built a tent in the village area to ensure that worship services could continue, but unfortunately, the tent could not withstand severe weather conditions and had to be dismantled.

“Worship services must not be missed; we hold them outdoors in good weather and in our yard in bad weather,” said Pastor Péter Pál, who expressed his gratitude to all who have supported the community so far, whether with chairs, instruments, or speakers.

“Unfortunately, we have not received any support from the municipality, but we are trying to seize every possible solution and trust wholeheartedly in the Lord that there will be progress in this matter,” added the pastor.

The congregation is doing everything it can to stay together and to serve God with the same enthusiasm as before. Naturally, there are tensions arising from the difficult situation, but they are trying to address these.

To rebuild the church, HGMI has announced a large-scale fundraising campaign, with generous donations continuously coming in. The more funds we can raise, the sooner the dream of Zákányszék can come true, allowing the members of the congregation to leave behind the terrible memory and once again worship and praise God together in the renewed building and be in fellowship with one another.
