This year, Roma issues were again included in the program of the Bálványos Summer University and Student Camp, with significant attention given to the questions of Roma pastoral care. As in previous years, Albert Durkó, President of the Hungarian Gypsy Missions International, participated as a speaker, primarily sharing his thoughts on the future of Christian Europe and the spiritual awakening of the Roma.
Over the past three decades, the Bálványos Summer University and Student Camp has become a significant public forum, providing an opportunity for open discussions.
“It is of great importance that lectures on Roma topics are regularly included in the program series. During the roundtable discussions, we talked about how the Roma community can change society and be a key for other nations. We had conversations with leaders from various churches and were pleased to see that we all have gained considerable experience in our ministry towards the Roma, allowing us to learn from each other. I felt it important to emphasize that we do not stoop down to Roma people, but we turn towards them; they are also God’s creations, so we embrace and love them. Our task is to lead them to Christ,” Albert Durkó reflected on the event.
According to the president, the meeting in Tusványos provided an excellent opportunity for exchanging experiences and strengthening relationships, as representatives from both churches and public policy were present at the event.
