pem consultation

We recently attended the 2024 Pentecostal European Mission (PEM) Consultation in Cluj, Romania—a gathering that brought together mission leaders, pastors, and passionate individuals from across Europe. This year’s theme, Empowered by the Spirit, provided an impactful framework for discussing our shared mission of reaching the lost, particularly those who are unreached or marginalized, with renewed purpose and practical strategies.

HGMI joined the consultation with a strong desire to deepen our approach to missions and to explore new pathways for collaboration. The event’s opening session emphasized Jesus’ mission to seek and save the lost, a message that resonates profoundly with our work among vulnerable and often overlooked communities. John Wesley’s timeless words were a guiding thread throughout the event: “You have nothing to do but to save souls. Therefore spend and be spent in this work…go not only to those that need you, but to those that need you most.”

The consultation’s workshops offered practical insights into essential aspects of effective mission work, providing valuable perspectives on how to strengthen and sustain our ministry. One critical focus was on the unique role of the Holy Spirit in missions—the Holy Spirit not only empowers but also guides, comforts, and strengthens workers as they bring the message of Christ to those who need it most. As was emphasized, we cannot separate the work of the Holy Spirit from that of Jesus; the Spirit always testifies of Christ, leading people to Him.

The PEM Consultation also underlined the importance of inspiring younger generations to engage in missions. As part of its commitment to the future of missional work, PEM seeks to mobilize and equip young people to carry forward the vision of reaching the lost, ensuring the continuation and expansion of this vital effort.

The event provided ample opportunities for networking. We engaged in conversations with other organizations, sharing strategies, challenges, and visions for the future of missions in Europe. The PEM Consultation was an inspiring and renewing experience for our team. We return to our work empowered and with a strengthened commitment to our mission: reaching those who are unreached, serving the marginalized, and advancing the Kingdom of God through the work of the Holy Spirit.
